Proverbs 18-24 says “,But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. “ Al was that kind of friend to me.

I wish everyone could have as devoted a friend as Al was to me.  He has left me with countless memories of our times together stretching all the way back to Andy Woods Elementary where we survived Jewel Williams's fifth grade class.  I could spend all day with these memories, and it would be a day filled with fun and laughter.  In the summer of 1968, to celebrate his 16th birthday, Allie took Dan Chamness and I to Dallas to see Jimi Hendrix in concert at Moody Coliseum.  It was quite an experience (pun intended).  Al was a loving husband and father, an unselfish teammate, a dedicated teacher and coach, and as loyal a friend as I'll ever have.  I'll miss him more than I can express.

I asked Allie to be my date to a dance our Senior year.  Unfortunately, he injured his knee during a basketball game and had to have surgery to repair it the week of the dance.  I went to see him in the hospital.  He apologized.  I told him he couldn't help it and get well soon and then I left.  I don't think we saw each other again  the rest of the year.🤔.  My memories of him are sweet.

Allie was a great guy. Always a smile on his face and lots of joking and laughing. Spent a lot of time with Allie throughout the years. The only guy in those years at Lee that could dunk a basketball. Great ball player. Rest In Peace my friend!

When I saw a notification from this site that Allie had passed, I logged back in to see more info.  It’s been quite a while since I visited the site.  In the message center I saw that Allie had sent me a note in October of 2017 (which I somehow missed at the time) reminiscing about our school days together starting in elementary school.  He said he hope to see me at our 50th reunion, IF he lived that long.  I’m really sad that I did not see the note at that time and had been able to respond/reconnect.  I’m always sorry to hear about one of our classmates deaths. Rest in peace Allie - I DO remember you as a good friend.
