Ellen Friedman

Life takes you to some unexpected places and experience. My training is in scientific research in biochemistry and molecular biology, my hobby is painting, but my current profession is strategic content communication for big data computing in Silicon Valley in California where I'm Principal Technologist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) in San Jose. I speak at international conferences in London, Berlin, Frankfurt, New York and Vancouver and write technical books for O'Reilly Media (AI & Analytics in Production, Machine Learning Logistics, Practical Machine Learning).

My husband (Dr. Ted Dunning) is a computer scientist, statistician and inventor, so we collaborate on some projects. I'm a committer on two open source Apache software projects.

I've retired from the Board of Directors for a US charity that supports scholarships and research at the University of Sheffield (England).

For fun, since 2019 I've started teaching myself to paint in watercolors, getting helpful comments from artists in Canada, England, Netherlands & Belgium, all via Twitter. Back in 2015, I published a collection of magic-themed cartoons on Amazon called "A Rabbit Under the Hat" with my co-cartoonist Jim Whiting.
